World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day on December 1 is an opportunity to bring people together to raise awareness for HIV.  Under the theme of “Take Action. No Discrimination”, the PLWHA Victoria team joins community leaders, educators and parliamentarians to celebrate the contribution of positive people to the health and diversity of the Victorian community.  For more information about this year’s World AIDS Day please contact the PLWHA Victoria office.

World AIDS Day Memorial Ceremony

PLWHA Victoria in partnership with the AIDS Memorial Candlelight Vigil and Quilt Project Melbourne host the World AIDS Day Memorial Ceremony at the Positive Living Centre. Other key HIV organisations including, The Catholic AIDS Ministry, Straight Arrows and Positive Women also offer their support to this important evening. The evening commemorates those that have passed away throughout the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with a display of Memorial Quilts, an exhibition of the PLWHA Legends, presentations of digital stories, guest speakers and performances. This event is open to all and bookings are not required. 

ChillOut Festival

ChillOut is an annual event held over the Labour Day long weekend in March. ChillOut celebrates diversity and creates a wonderful environment for families and friends to relax in the unique setting of Daylesford.  When you next visit ChillOut, make sure you stroll by the PLWHA Victoria stall on Carnival Day and pick up a show bag.

Spring Migration

The small historic town of Beechworth comes alive with Spring Migration in August. This event has been running for many years and is a great opportunity for people living in the region to meet and greet. Please feel free to tap a member of our team on the shoulder next Spring Migration and have a chat about the services available for people living with HIV in rural Victoria.

Vietnamese Lunar Festival

In partnership with the Multicultural Health and Support Services (MHSS), PLWHA Victoria attends the Vietnamese Lunar Festival street party, to celebrate the New Year. Watch out for our promotional banner as you wonder through the amazing sights and sounds of the festival.

Treatment Interactive Events

Treatment Interactive Events provide relevant current information to HIV positive people on a range of medical, social and psychological issues that impact on their lives.  Events are held three times a year and consist of a panel of health professionals to discuss and present information on living well with HIV. The events take place within a cafe/restaurant atmosphere on an evening/weekend, and provide a social peer support environment where the latest in treatment and health information is imparted in an informal, entertaining and educational format.  The events are an exemplary model for providing education within a safe and social environment.  Free entry, refreshments and door prizes. Planet Positive

Planet Positive is a regular social event for HIV positive members and their friends. It aims to facilitate the social networks of PLHIV to improve their emotional and social well being in an enjoyable and safe environment. Planet Positive is held every two months at various locations throughout Melbourne. Check your local newspaper and PosLink for the next date and location.  Free entry, refreshments and door prizes. Midsumma Carnival

When visiting the Midsumma Festival Annual Carnival, please feel free to pay a visit to the PLWHA Victoria tent/marquee. At the tent you can freshen up with free cold water and fresh fruit, pick up your latest copy of PosLink and other resources while chatting with friends, staff and volunteers of PLWHA Victoria.

The space also offers the opportunity to sit down and take a break throughout the day, rest those tired feet, and give your pets a chance to have a drink and rest also.

Pride March Victoria

PLWHA Victoria regularly takes part in Melbourne's Annual Pride March. With a crowd of enthusiastic friends and supporters, the PLWHA Victoria's entry is a crowd favourite!
